Advantages of Electromyography Devices
Electromyography Devices are used to record muscular activities taking place inside the body. These are employed to find out medical abnormalities, high activation or studying the structure and function of biological systems of human movement. A toolelectromyograph produces a graph of the activity; the so produced graph is called an electromyogram. Apart from monitoring diseases of motor control, the EMG devices are also used as prosthetic devices.

Market for EMG devices
The Electromyography Devices Market is expected to be worth USD 2.4 billion by 2024 from USD 1.3 billion in 2015. Normally the market for EMG devices is run by after sales service. It is growing due to the advancements in technology and rise in population. However, the lack of skilled manufacturers and poor medical regulations are slowing the growth of these devices. North America is the leading producer of these devices followed by Europe.
Uses for EMG Devices
EMG devices has a lot of medical and clinical devices, it is used to detect neuromuscular diseases, diseases of motor control and the scientific study of human body movement. EMGs are particularly helpful in detecting the causes of pain in cervical spine, the upper and middle – back, in the nerve root and various other disorders of muscles and nerves.
Apart from these the EMG Devices are also used in various wearable devices:
Cautions while using the EMG devices
If a needle electrode is to be placed in the skin of the patient, that is to be done carefully and under proper conditions, keeping in mind the right position and size of the muscle to be penetrated. There is no evidence that complications could arise in the case of a patient on cardiac pacemaker or in case of a pregnancy, however proper surgical advice should be taken in such conditions
Limitations of EMG devices
A needle insertion does have a few drawbacks or limitations as it might lead to involuntary activity in muscles causing the patient to be afraid of the procedure. As happens in case of children or infants whose parents are unwilling make their child go through with the procedure. Apart from that the EMG signal readings could be less accurate with individuals having a higher body fat. Surface EMG is also limited due to lack of reliability on muscles. Sometimes intramuscular wires are required to record an EMG signal deep inside the muscle mass, which is very painful.
In conclusion EMG data is best studied and compared with other diagnostic studies like the MRI, Ultrasound, etc.
